RENEGADE EL REY, a Grammy Nominated Engineer, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Nella Writes, where he provided a fascinating glimpse into his remarkable career and new single "OKAY OKAY". Known for his unparalleled talent and innovative approach to music production, RENEGADE EL REY has left an indelible mark on the industry. While rooting for the success of Killer Mike’s recently released Micheal album (an album that he was a key engineer on) RENEGADE EL REY never hesitated to continue with the release of his own music as an artist. RENEGADE EL REY just released new single "Okay Okay" produced by Brilliant Mack. The first single from their joint project set to be released later this year.

Nella Writes:

How does it feel to be releasing a new single and what does this single mean to you?

RENEGADE EL REY:

As an active artist and creator in general we always want to share our creations with the world. So, for me to finally be getting this vibe out to the people it's refreshing.

Nella Writes:

Why was it necessary to bring Brilliant Mack in as a producer on this "OKAY OKAY " track and what impact did it make to the song?

RENEGADE EL REY:

Well actually this is just the first installment from the whole project we did together. It’s going to be about 7-9 records and he made about 80% of it. Impact wise me and him have always had a dope chemistry since we started to work together so it’s just regular follow for us.

Nella Writes:

What made you release this single first?

RENEGADE EL REY:

This joint just has that undeniable bounce. We tested it out at a few shows and people have been really loving it from the jump, so it was only right to make in the first record from the project.

Nella Writes:

So, I understand that you’re affiliated with groups like the Dungeon Family and the coalition DJ’s, and you’re the Head Engineer and manager at the respected Stankonia Studios. What do affiliations and accomplishments like that mean to you?

RENEGADE EL REY:

Well, the way I look at it is it’s all just my network, people who I rock with and work with on regular basis, So, from there we became family. So, when you see a Big Boi of Outkast, Goodie Mob or anybody else I just see my bigger brothers. And the same with Dj Funky, Big X or anybody with the Coalition. Studio manager wise, I earned the job and I take it seriously everyday just like I do creating music. It’s an accomplishment for sure, but I’m always focused on accomplishing more.

Nella Writes:

Your list of collaborations is insane from Snoop Dog, Killer Mike, Big Boi, Kanye, Project Pat and more, how do you manage to create timeless moments with these iconic artists?

RENEGADE EL REY:

Well, honestly a lot of it is because I engineer their records, so I’ve built a rapport with them, and with others I just simply reached out to them about doing records with me. I don’t always get a yes because I’m still earning my stripes, but those that say yes, we end up creating some dope sh**

Nella Writes:

Since we mentioned Killer Mike, how was it working with him on his latest Album, the Michael album? And which tracks did you gravitate towards More?

RENEGADE EL REY:

For me it was another day in the office because I’ve worked on a number of records with Mike rather it was with Big Boi or him by his self. So, when he told me he wanted to jump in and work for 30-60 days that’s just what we did… fast forward now the world has the incredible Micheal album. As far as records I gravitate to, I’d probably say Motherless and Scientist and Engineers were always my favorite; Mike showed people just why he’s one of the greats on those in my opinion. I actually cried when we listened back to Motherless… missing my grandma that night I just got super choked up.

Nella Writes:

As a Grammy Nominated Engineer what have you learned about the entertainment Industry?

RENEGADE EL REY:

Well, nothing changed for me being Grammy Nominated. I was able to work with Ye because of my network; Slim Calhoun and Fonzworth Bently helped put me in position for that situation. So, to me keeping a solid network before then and after is still what’s going to help me propel in the industry.

Nella Writes:

Great talking to you RENEGADE, looking forward to more conversations. I have one more question before we finish up. Describe the new RENEGADE EL REY project that will be released in one word?

 RENEGADE EL REY:

Hmm… one word is a difficult… lol.. I guess in my opinion I’d have to say it’s Playa. This particular vibe is me after feeling good about overcoming a lot of BS and hurdles in life AND music… so for the most part it’s just me kicking sh** from that feeling. Always a pleasure kicking it with you Nella, Looking forward to more as well. You Know I like dropping exclusives with you!
